Tubbyland

Portrait: Tubbyland

Tubbyland is the homeland of Farost, a country of teletubbies and the other inhabitants living alongside them. It exists for one mission alone.

All for the laughs.

Geography and physics

Tubbyland has several representations — a physical one and a virtual one, the latter located inside Farost’s teletummy. The physical incarnation of Tubbyland has a complex and unstable structure, like everything in our world, even though it takes its origins from the territory of the United Kingdom. The virtual, digital incarnation of Tubbyland can vary depending on the level of the teletummy on which it’s presented.

To put it simply, Tubbyland is the home of Farost and all the residents, as well as everything contained inside the magic teletummy.

Tubbyland’s currency is pupas: colored coins that rain down on residents for loyalty to the state and other achievements.

The digital map of Tubbyland

Tubbyland
Tubbyland

This incarnation was created by Faro-chan to let viewers into the DATA CORRUPTED level of the Teletummy. Tubbyland consists of two large islands plus an extra cluster of islands in the south.

Digital Tubbyland’s structure and contents are decided by the legendary events of the streams, which underlines their dynamic nature.

The physical properties, and the finer points of how the residents of Tubbyland travel between the islands, are undefined. It has been observed that the residents enjoy complete freedom of self-determination, choosing their location and their occupation entirely by personal preference.

The Main Island

The Main Island takes the shape of the real-world island of Storøya, which was discovered by Tubbyland’s moderation team and marked on the map as “Farost Island”.

The Northern Region

The Northern Region
The Northern Region

The region lies in the forest-steppe belt. Its relief is mostly flat, cut here and there by a network of gullies and ravines in the centre. West of the central plain the land turns mountainous and hilly. The landscape is dominated by mixed-grass steppe communities with rare patches of broadleaf forest. The hydrographic network is moderately developed and consists of the basins of the rivers “Six” and “Seven”.

West

A forest thicket running up into the mountains. Its landmark is the wise oak Ahah :AHAH:.

Centre

The central part of the region is Tubbyland’s food basket. The Dustcatchers farming cooperative — a vast network of grey fields — grows grain, vegetables and fruit for the whole state! The colour of the fields themselves comes from the fertiliser “dust”. Here too stands the northernmost town of all Tubbyland — Puzzliki. They say Smart People live there, the sort who love to assemble jigsaw puzzles against the clock; a little south of the town, puzzle formations later appeared in the landscape. When Tubbyland expanded north through the Wall of Sasavot, the village of Sixsevyanka was founded. Today it is a workers’ village, its demographics dominated by the staff of the Dustcatchers cooperative.

East

Once upon a time an ordinary, hard-working resident noticed that our world is full of astonishing sounds and waveforms. Inspired, he quit the factory and set off on a journey. The road took him north. To the noise of the ocean and the singing of birds, he got down to work… A year later a device existed that could broadcast music of any kind across the entire teletummy. Two years later, experience gained, the resident walked to the capital, straight to Farost. Farost liked what the resident played him so much that the teletummy itself began to shake… A couple of months later, on the very spot where that resident had been inspired, a concert village appeared, named after the musician. Its name is Tomilovka. To this day residents from all over Tubbyland come to this village to listen to the magnificent mixes of Mikhail Tomilov.

The Central Region

The Central Region
The Central Region

The region is a complex, landscape-diverse sublatitudinal forest-steppe zone, closed in by a mountain-and-hill system to the west, a forest-steppe lowland to the south and plains to the east. The natural complex divides cleanly into three interconnected morphological parts: the mountainous west, the low-lying central basin and the hilly plains of the east. The hydrographic network is moderately developed and consists of the basin of Lake Teletummy.

West

The western part of the region is the most tectonically active zone in all of Tubbyland. Here stands the highest mountain, Peak, along with any number of hiking areas and the “karmafki” tunnel complex. In the southernmost part of the mountains stands the lonely tower of Kumi, mistress of the tunnels. The tower is guarded to this day by a monster nobody has ever seen, named Zhorik, whom the local children love to lure out with pebblies.

South of the mountain complex lie hills that roll all the way to the capital and most populous city of all Tubbyland — the city of Puzelsk. Just right of the capital stands the legendary monument of rebirth and cleansing of the soul — the Bengereng cross. According to the chroniclers, this place will be the end of puberty, of vulgarity and of the weight of desire.

Centre

The central zone is the most heavily cut by river flows, and between them sit several bright points of interest at once.

The TeleArena is where residents gather for entertainment and to settle local disputes. Splitting into small groups or answering only for themselves, they stage a “TV royale” battle, where the strongest and luckiest survives.

To its right runs a wall of enormous and astonishing length — the Wall of Sasavot. This wall is at once a bridge between the centre and the north of Tubbyland, a dam separating the rivers Six and Seven, and a thermoregulating unit that diverts the wind flows around the sides of the island.

A little village, Sevensiksya, has stood beneath the Wall of Sasavot for a long time. In the old days it was a workers’ village: the residents who lived there went out to haul boulders for building the Wall of Sasavot. Today only a few buildings of that village remain.

East

The eastern part of the central region is the state’s technical, tourist, friendly and industrial centre. Here, just right of the village of Sevensiksi, stands the Farost Femboy House, or FFH — the centre of friendliness and morality, and also CENSORED

At the river mouth, south of FFH, sits the industrial centre — the Factory, built on classified technologies. To cover its labour needs the industrial city of Pupsk was built. It is home to many factory workers and the technical core of Tubbyland. The views of the ocean and of the fields near FFH awaken in the island’s residents an urge to work and to do research.

The southernmost settlement of the eastern part is the village of Upper Puziki. Together with Lower Puziki it forms the “Puziki” complex, which mostly lives on fishing.

The Southern Region

The Southern Region
The Southern Region

The region lies in the southern coastal zone and is characterised by mostly flat relief with a well-developed hydrographic network. The central element of the landscape is the large Lake Teletummy, the source of a river that divides the territory into a western and an eastern sector. The western edge is low-lying marshland turning into forest. The eastern part has a drier climate: forest-steppe zones give way to sandy stretches and, in the far south, run into a mountain-and-hill ridge washed by the ocean. The central sector is flat steppe with rare broadleaf forests.

Lake Teletummy in the centre is an infinite glitch-capacious space, called a “lake” only for the shape it has taken: a closed body of water of limited size. Physically it connects to two rivers and through one of them flows into the ocean.

Because it is suspected of a clear connection with the broadcasting Teletummy, Lake Teletummy is the target of never-ending scientific research on its shores and under its water. At the same time it is one of Tubbyland’s main sights, which is why interest in it — and the funding priority of the bits next to it — runs particularly high.

The danger of Lake Teletummy

The Tubby Nature Watch warns everybody about safety measures, and about keeping clean and intact the genuinely rare nature of Lake Teletummy and the land around it.

Above all, do not ignore the warnings about the dangerous creatures of this natural zone. One of them, the giant glitch arachnid Khuyatina, normally dwells at mid-depth in the lake, moves constantly along the visible lake bed and periodically crawls out onto the shore. It is not dangerous in itself, but its fondness for chasing leads to accidents among the residents again and again. Those it chases usually fail to handle the panic and die trying to escape the creature. Scientists note that this may be caused by a natural fear of Khuyatina’s visually infinite body, which presumably can reach a length comparable to the depth of the lake. Stay alert.

West

The western sector stands out first of all for its prison, Vypupka, set on a peninsula whose only way out is a checkpoint in the north. There are no trees on the peninsula, the silty ground makes movement hard, and thanks to its geography the territory is quite hot — it is regularly hit by so-called heat waves. Every bad resident who has earned a vypup ends up in this prison.

The second line of defence is Cape Anmod. Here live the moderators who distinguished themselves by handling their duties in the quieter regions with insufficient responsibility. Those who can’t write facts, for example. Their main task is to keep watch over the offenders who have already been punished.

Finally, the third line of defence is the Gryaz swamp. Hard to cross and unpleasant at first sight, it is in fact home to a diverse flora and fauna, without which Tubbyland’s ecological system would have an entirely different balance.

East

The eastern sector is the complete opposite of the western one. Here it is entertainment and freedom every day. The city of Traaaadetown holds anime marathons every week, and the broadcasts and the noise can be heard all over Tubbyland. The city is ringed by the Megan wall, which keeps the good times uninterrupted. Trade in the city never stops: you can buy a brand-new Hatsune Miku anime figurine or a spare pair of socks. Traaaadetown is also the main port, and from its pier you can reach any point in Tubbyland.

Further right on the map lies the city of Miami — hot, party-loving and a little piggish in its own way. A bit to the north sits the second half of the Puziki complex already mentioned above — the village of Lower Puziki.

The Moustache National Park and the Island of Puberty
The Moustache National Park and the Island of Puberty

The Island of the Moustache National Park

A manifestation of Farost’s moustache.

This is Tubbyland’s main national park. You may wander and fool around in it, but you must respect and protect the flora and fauna, which can serve up the most unexpected surprises.

In the northern part are snow-covered mountain ridges, above which rises Mount Hype — one of the main draws for lovers of hiking and rock climbing.

The Island of Puberty

West of the Moustache national park lies the Island of Puberty — a lifeless scrap of orange land with the volcano CLEAN (:farostCLEAN:) in the middle. The island was declared undesirable to visit, since it is barely fit for life: scorched infertile soil, polluted air and no infrastructure. That does not stop the especially pubertal residents of Tubbyland, who have chosen this island as the place to live.

The Dust Speck Archipelago

The Dust Speck Archipelago
The Dust Speck Archipelago

The archipelago consists of two large islands, “Antenna” and “Dustland”, plus many smaller scraps of land surrounded by ocean.

Antenna Island

Named after its shape, which resembles the little antenna on Farost’s head. Residents who have visited it said the island stands out for its “positive energy” and “soothing melancholy”.

Dustland Island

The second most populated after the Main Island, Dustland is a two-sector region of land in the middle of the ocean. The western part consists mostly of sand and beaches. The temperature there can reach 40 degrees Celsius depending on the season, which is why it became the beloved resort zone for everyone who wants to go red or go brown — and to taste the most delicious watermelons. The eastern part has a slightly milder climate, with fertile soil covered in dust.

The whole island is riddled with underground water tunnels whose outlets show up as many lakes all over it. The water can reach 36 degrees Celsius.

The Poo-Poo Centre

Poo-Poo's house
Poo-Poo's house

Poo-Poo’s house. The dustiest place in Tubbyland. Access to the island is restricted — this is where Poo-Poo runs its computations and vacuums dust with enthusiasm. Because of that, the noise on the island itself can exceed the limits for human and teletubby ears.

The Poo-Poo Centre acts as the main energy and intellectual generator. Every smart piece of technology in Tubbyland is run from here, no matter where Poo-Poo physically is.

The history of digital Tubbyland is still being written, and with it new geographical features keep appearing on this spacious map.
